The Future is H.E.R.S.
Afro-American Workforce Development Group, Inc.
According to the US Department of Energy, "buildings consume 75% of the electricity and 40% of the total energy used in the United States."
This means that making buildings energy-efficient is the single largest thing we can do to conserve energy and contribute to a cleaner, healthier environment.
(It saves everybody money, too.)
We are a western-Massachusetts based non-profit organization helping people in our region into better-paying clean energy jobs and careers. Right now, we're focused on Home Energy Rating careers (H.E.R.S) https://www.resnet.us/raters/hers-raters/ . We can help you learn about H.E.R.S and explore other initiatives to help you personally contribute to global energy conservation.
We're engaging with local communities and introducing people entering the workforce to better-paying careers with opportunities for professional growth.
Our Home Energy Rating Training Initiative aims to help BIPOC (Black and Indigenous People of Color) and those living in lower-income neighborhoods thrive in the green energy sector. We focus on education, community engagement, and working towards a cleaner energy future for us all.

A Better Future for You
Build a career. Make an impact. Earn a decent living.
The Home Energy Rating System (HERS) isn’t just about saving energy—it's about opening doors.
By completing HERS training, you can enter a growing industry with real, family-sustaining wages. As a HERS Rater, you'll play a key role in making homes healthier, more energy-efficient, and more affordable—especially in communities that need it most.
Whether you're looking to start fresh, transition careers, or grow within the clean energy economy, HERS certification offers:
Competitive Pay – HERS Raters typically earn $20–$35+ per hour, depending on experience and location.
Job Security – Energy efficiency is a fast-growing field, driven by government incentives, green building codes, and public demand.
Career Mobility – Build skills in building science, construction, HVAC, and more. Step into roles like energy auditor, sustainability consultant, or project manager.
Work with Purpose – Make a difference in your own neighborhood by helping reduce utility bills, improve indoor air quality, and cut carbon emissions.
We are committed to ensuring Black, Indigenous, Latinx, and other people of color—as well as individuals from low-income communities—have access to the training, tools, and support they need to thrive in this space.
The future is HERS. Let’s build it together.
